Building a DIY Sparkler Bucket

Building a DIY Sparkler Bucket

Using sparklers for the grand exit at your wedding is a popular choice these days, but sparklers aren’t always the most elegant looking thing you can display at your reception. Let’s face it; they are gray little sticks that are pretty boring to look at in a sea of colorful wedding decorations. However, there are a few ways you can dress them up to fit in, and the most popular way is by using a sparkler bucket.
There are plenty of places online that offer sparkler buckets for sale which are pre-made and ready to go, but it’s really hard to justify the price considering it’s just a bucket with a sign on it. Instead, consider building your very own DIY sparkler bucket to save money and give it that personal touch. Here’s everything you need to know to put one together.

Step 1: Materials Needed

The materials that you will need to build a DIY sparkler bucket are really common, so getting your hands on them should be pretty easy. In fact, there’s a good chance that you’ll have everything you need already laying around your home or garage, but everything else can be purchased at a drug store or hardware store for very cheap. Best of all, buckets come in all shapes and sizes, so you can really tailor the look to your own desires. Here’s what you need:
• A metal bucket
• Color construction paper
• Resume paper
• Scissors
• Markers
• Glue Stick
• Hot Glue Gun
• Sparklers
• Ribbon (optional)
• Spray paint (optional)

Step 2: Preparing the Bucket

The first thing you need to do is prepare the bucket for decorating. Make sure you clean the bucket thoroughly before you do anything else because you won’t be able to after you attach the paper sign to it. If you plan on painting your sparkler bucket, it’s helpful to scrub it down with some steel wool before you wash it so the paint can adhere better. Always use a good quality spray paint to paint your bucket, and make sure you read the label and give it ample time to dry before you proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Making the Sign

To make your sign, start by cutting a piece of resume paper to the size you want the main part of your sign to be. Then, cut a piece of color construction paper to be just a little larger than your piece of resume paper; usually about ½ inch larger on each side. Spread glue from your glue stick on the back of your resume paper and center it over the construction paper and press it down firmly.
Once your glue has dried, you can use your markers to write whatever message you’d like on the sign. Popular choices include “Light up the last dance”, “Let love sparkle”, or simply the names of the bride and groom along with their wedding date.

Step 4: Attaching the Sign

Once you have the sign complete, it’s time to attach it. Choose an area on your bucket where you’d like to attach your sign, and then use your hot glue gun to adhere it to the bucket. Be very careful to use only as much hot glue as is necessary to avoid your sign looking lumpy or having extra hot glue seep out the sides.

Step 5: Assembly and Final Touches

Now that the main components of your sparkler bucket have been assembled, you can finish the assembly and add any final touches you may want. First, you’ll want to grab all of your wedding sparklers and arrange them nicely in the bucket. Make sure they stand up nicely but are loose enough to be removed easily. Now the basics of your DIY sparkler bucket are complete, and you can add any finishing touches that you desire.

If you want to dress up your sparkler bucket a bit more, you can easily tie some ribbon around the bucket to add a touch of elegance. Some couples like to glue small fake flowers to the outside of the bucket or even attach balloons to the handle to make it stand out at the reception. You can add any number of decorations to your completed DIY sparkler bucket to make it blend into your wedding and make the statement that you desire.
